Python Meeting Düsseldorf (PyDDF)

The Python Meeting Düsseldorf (PyDDF) is a local Python user meeting run by Charlie Clark’s and my company in Düsseldorf, Germany, every 3 months.

Fine Python meetings since 2012

Early in 2012, Charlie Clark and I revived the idea of having regular Python user meetings in Düsseldorf, something I had started in 2002, but which had not worked out well at the time, since we used a local pub for the meetings.

Concept

The concept was to run a quarterly meeting, not a monthly one, as many other user groups do, to make sure that we always have something fresh to show and more than just one or two interesting presentations.

For the first few meetings we used lightning talks and even timed these for some added fun. Later on, we decided to allow longer talks as well, since some topics simply need more time.

Ever since we started, we also recorded the talks and put them up on our YouTube video channel. This allows us to more easily reference talks and also helps attract new attendees.

The concept has worked out well and the meeting has established itself as new regular in the larger Rheinland area, together with the PyCologne user group meetings in Cologne.

Python Sprints

In 2013, we started adding yearly sprint events to the meeting. These were initially held at the University Düsseldorf. For 2015, we had the sprint at the trivago GmbH offices in Düsseldorf.
